Our house was built with a partial basement. Long before it was ours, the crawl space was dug out to become a workshop and jack posts were installed to support a steel beam. Part of my issue was the wood block at the top of one post was splitting and the steel plate at the top was bowing. I wanted to at least replace the top pieces with a steel block.
